Why Is North East England In Desperate Need Of Foster Parents?
Across the country, the number of vulnerable children and young people continues every day to surge, with the North East being no different. To respond to this increased need for safe, loving foster homes, more foster parents with the required skill, compassion and commitment are vital to ensure as many children and young people as possible can have access to a comfortable, secure environment. Here, they can grow, develop and blossom as any child should!
At Changing Futures, we are doing our part to recruit as many able veterans and prospective foster parents as possible in and around the North East of England. We are looking for caring, compassionate individuals who are able to create a warm, loving environment, as well as the much-needed stability and structure that these vulnerable children and young people may never have had access to. This involves more than providing a roof over their head; it includes having the mental and physical resilience to care and love, even when times get tough and challenges arise. It is about creating long-lasting relationships built on mutual trust and affection, harbouring a sense of security and, importantly, a sense of belonging and identity!
What Is The Impact Of Fostering?
Children and young people in the care system have often had it really tough and have been stuck in difficult, traumatic environments that mean they are unable to live with their biological parents. This can give way to some pretty strong emotions, which may sometimes be challenging to work through, but providing a safe, loving and supportive environment is often the first step towards recovery and healing. By giving these children a space to grow and prosper, you are providing them with a lifeline, an opportunity that only opens more doors as they get older.
For you as a foster parent, it’s equally rewarding! The fulfilment gained from seeing a child in your care grow into an incredible young adult, overcoming challenges and obstacles along the way, is, in our view, unmatched, as is the sense of family and community it creates. Whether you do or don’t have biological children of your own, the addition of a foster child has been said to enrich family life and create a true sense of meaning and identity for all, but particularly for the young person in your care.
